One of my favorite activities during vanlife? Introducing Peter Van and my various adventures to classrooms of enthusiastic kids! How many times through our lives do we hear ourselves say or think: ‘I wish they taught me this at school’ or ‘I wish I knew this from a younger age’. Coaching for kids would be such a useful tool.
I know I’ve done this many times. And I believe that implementing positive and purposeful coaching for kids whilst sharing positivity tips through school presentations can reduce regrets and boost a zest for life for future generations.
It’s true that the biggest lessons in life are those learned first-hand, from personal experience along the journey of Life. But what if we could accelerate the learning process, reduce hardship, and increase wellbeing? How? By teaching the right tools earlier on through coaching for kids when in school for example.
HOW I STARTED COACHING FOR KIDS
My first school presentation came about in 2017, thanks to a good friend and former classmate (from age 5 to 10!) in Alsace, France.
For my solo motorbike trip from London to (near) Venice, I contacted him to see if there was anything I could volunteer to do when passing through my beloved old home-town of Dambach-la-Ville. He suggested I could visit the College and talk to students about my experience of living in different countries and my fund-raising motorbike adventure.
You know when something is just right for you when you immediately feel nervous and excited at the prospect of it.
He put me in touch with the English teacher of the College and we made it all happen.
MY EXPERIENCE OF SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS
The experience in Alsace left me feeling so wonderful and longing for more. I never talked to a class of students before and I was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and joy I witnessed.
I realized just how powerful connecting through school presentations in this way could really be.
So while on the road solo-touring Europe in a campervan, I looked to create other similar opportunities. I’ve since had the pleasure and honor of speaking to 10 more classes of primary and secondary students in Italy and I am currently connecting with schools in London, too.
Combining the benefits of life coaching with mentorship from both my professional and personal experiences, I look to inspire my young listeners to:
- feel positive about themselves and others;
- discover and embrace their unique powers;
- be loving and compassionate; and
- open their minds, stay curious, fun and creative.
THE BENEFITS OF COACHING FOR KIDS
Coaching for kids programs and sharing fun self-development tools tailored to their age and needs can be a great way to teach how to free the mind of negative thinking. To open up instead to all the wonderful possibilities that a more optimistic and loving attitude to life can bring.
The beauty of coaching for kids is that it allows them to look for and find their own solutions. This is empowering and refreshing – especially at an age when everyone is mostly trying to teach youngsters what to think, what to say, when to say it, and how to fit in pre-determined boxes.
It was very enriching for us, and we are now more willing to step out of our comfort zone!
Thank you for your positive attitude, your smile and energy were contagious.
Here are a few adorable messages I received from the Italian students who made the great effort of writing in English!
