What does “change” mean to you and how does it make you feel?
In October, Isabel (Year 7) took part in a poetry competition organised by her school for National Poetry Day (https://nationalpoetryday.co.uk/about-npd). This year’s theme was: Change.
Her dad shared her beautiful poem with me, which he felt may resonate with the changes I have experienced in my life recently. It certainly did! She really captured the process of change with both the hardship and the positives.
I asked their permission to share it further with you all because I know many others will appreciate how lovely it is.
Isabel’s art piece didn’t win that competition but she won my heart. And most importantly she enjoyed writing it and participating in the event. Her talent for writing and her positivity are very inspiring.
I take the opportunity to invite us all to look back at what we enjoyed doing at a younger age, regardless of any recognition received. That’s where many core values and passions lay. Key to finding our life purpose.
Here it is. Enjoy!
THE CALL OF NATURE
It starts as an idea,
Then turns into a desire
It gets stronger and stronger,
Until you just have to go
You can’t wait any longer.
Pack your bags,
You’re going tonight.
Prepare some food,
You’ll be up all night.
Now get some rest,
You need to be at your best.
Today is the day your life will change,
You’re not so sure now, you feel so strange.
How do I know I have made the right
decision?
What if I didn’t pick it with enough
precision?
All these feelings are normal for this,
You will think about the home you miss.
You have arrived, the breeze licks your hair
Smell the scent of damp grass in the air.
“It’s different”, you say
But notice, beyond no walls or corridors
It’s a new life, a chance to explore the great outdoors.
