Me and dating apps? Oh gosh. Here is my experience of shopping on Tinder…
Friends have tried to get me on dating apps for years and I’ve always felt “it’s not my thing”, whatever this means. I still do.
I totally love the great social opportunities that web technology offers and I know of many beautiful, success stories that have come out of the likes of Tinder, Happn, Adoptunmec (French), etc.
I personally prefer meeting new people in person and luckily I don’t have a problem with that. I do smile and talk to anyone and everyone. I enjoy connecting through fun spontaneous coincidences and eye contact.
Call me old-fashioned. (Really, me?)
That said, I have given it a try a few times to check for myself what it’s all about. Therefore yes, I do have an account on Tinder. Go find me and swipe-right!
Swipe left vs. Swipe right
As I am traveling solo through Europe, I recently found myself curious enough to download the Tinder app again to see what may come out of it, when moving nomadically as much as I do with vanlife.
I was in Liguria in Sanremo (Italy) and I just got off a call with a friend who invited me to join a fancy carnival party in Venice, only a week later. The theme? Jungle Fever.
I was trying to figure out how the heck I could find a suitable party costume with so little time available, while half-consciously also swiping on Tinder aimlessly.
Swipe left, swipe left, swipe left. …oh, then RIGHT. It’s a MATCH!
The guy looked very handsome and most importantly: fun. He messaged shortly after and we briefly chatted and exchanged Instagram details. We were at least a 50km distance apart.
A perfect match!
NO WAY, I couldn’t believe it. The first thing I noticed on his IG account was a link on his bio to his party/costume shop!
There was my online fun, spontaneous coincidence.
I tell him about my party dilemma and he excitedly sends me a few options that he thinks would suit the party theme and me.
We find the perfect outfit and he arranged its delivery to my parents’ (near Venice) in time for me to wear it to the party. Incredible, problem solved.
Thank you, Tinder for a perfect shopping experience and a fun new match!
